Some Runescape Players think Strength pure is not really so good

In our days it seems to me most RS players tend to train strength to levels much higher than attack and defence when it comes to melee’ers. Players in these days

love to see numbers hit high - but is that enough to “own”? After the three years I’ve spent on Runescape, and hearing many opinions from players with high

levels of strength but still getting hit like butter, I’d like to actually give my opinion on all this and discuss gaming strategy.

Alrigth so before going any further, we know Attack increases your chances of hitting. Strength increases your maximum damage. Defense increases your chances

of getting hit 0’s. The theory of the so called “str pures” is to hit as much damage as possible no matter your survivability - this means kill or get

killed, the equivalent of “nukers” on other MMO’s. However, it impresses me so many people discovered “nukers” in Runescape, but little discovered their

oppisite: tankers. Not to mention tankers are known to own at PvP on many other MMO’s.

With a good balance in skills and a fair amount of defence - higher than strength and most likely attack aswell, the tanker will deal fair damage and evade a

lot of damage of damage. Whereas a defenceless pure gets hit very easily and deals higher damage. However, if the typical pure (say 99 strength 1 defence 60

attack 99 mage 99 ranged) fights a 99 ranged 99 defence (aka range tanker), you don’t need to be a genie to guess the range tank will laugh at the pure

hitting 0’s and still beat the hell out of him with his maxed range level - not to mention the pure does not have any defence to stop the high damage.

You don’t really need to have ideal builds to notice any of that, even I on Silvertaler sometimes happen to fight pures of my level at the duel arena and I

notice it. The combat damage generaly goes as:

Me:
10-15-0-0-15-5-0-10-10 (took easy numbers as I’m supposing the max HP is 65)

Opponent: 0-0-0-20-0-0-20-0-0

Clearly the pure has issues with hitting me. Not to mention it’s easier to recover from a casual 25 every 5 hits than to recover from constant 5’s every 5

hits or so. This leads to also saying Attack is better than Strength, being sure of dealing damage, and attacking efficiently is always better than spray n’

pray. I don’t know how other people consider attack much, but I don’t think Jagex created it as a skill only to wield weapons, not more than they created

Defence to wear armour.

Obviously you might be thinking “but you’re comparing RS builds to other MMO’s, and this isn’t WoW”, maybe, but I got a strategy and it works. So yeah, why

Train Ruescape strength so high, when the other skills clearly have their advantages and can be used as efficiently if not better at anything?

Oh and er, I’m expecting a decent conversation with normal arguments, not the old replies such as “you suck” “my character owns you all” whatever isn’t

constructive critiscism.
